Where & What to Eat in Kandy

Despite having the distinction of being the second largest city in Sri Lanka after Colombo there is not too much of a night life. It is a relatively quiet and peaceful town. This does not mean that Kandy lacks good cuisine. True to its mixed heritage the city provides you with a variety of cuisine from local seafood to long forgotten European delicacies. You can even taste some Indian food here including northern and south Indian food.

Peradeniya Resthouse

The Resthouse is popular with both the locals and the tourists. Live music is also on hand to serenade you. Food is reasonable and portions are large, offering you good value for your money.

Rams

Located on Colombo Street, this is also a place where you get great value and yummy food. The South Indian Food here is fresh and mouthwatering. There are innovative variations like Pepper Chicken Dosa and Banana Lassi on offer. Food is reasonably priced.

Devon

Located in Dalada Vidiya, Devon is actually in the heart of the city and is ideal for dining as a family as there is a playroom available. There is also a bakery and assorted eating areas on the premises. The upstairs restaurant is called the Captain’s Table and is quite good. You can sit in the balcony and get a view of the street below. It is less expensive than average and very popular with the locals.

KFC

If local food is getting too much and you want good old fried chicken, head for the KFC in central Kandy. You might find it difficult to find it in the clutter, but your tuk tuk driver is sure to know the way. Just as sure as he is sure to get you to Pizza Hut in case you are interested in good old western food.
